ProjectDiane
digitalundivided
ProjectDiane is a biennial demographic study by digitalundivided that provides a snapshot of the landscape for Latina and Black women entrepreneurs and innovators. I supervised a team of data collectors who reviewed and verified information from databases, websites, and LinkedIn profiles. I also conducted a thorough review of existing relevant literature and analyzed survey data from nearly 400 respondents.
Shifting the Narrative
The Opportunity Agenda
The Opportunity Agenda’s Shifting the Narrative Project seeks to identify elements that helped successfully transform the “big story” on several social justice issues. I assisted the lead researcher by collecting data from print and social media sources to analyze gradual discursive shifts in public and academic debates on the death penalty and poverty.
Developing Inclusive Entrepreneurial Communities
digitalundivided
digitalundivided released the Developing Inclusive Entrepreneurial Communities for Black and Latinx Women Entrepreneurs Report in 2021. It centers founders’ perspectives to explore regional ecosystems across the United States and identify takeaways relevant to cities seeking to attract and retain diverse innovators. I led the data collection for this report by surveying existing literature, planning and conducting focus groups with entrepreneurs, and preparing key findings summaries. I also assisted in refining the framing and scope of the project.
Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity Department Formation
University of Chicago
(Research Assistantship)This research provided data for the proposal that successfully led to the formation of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity, the first ever department devoted to the study of race and its intersections at the University of Chicago. Along with two other research assistants, I designed and distributed surveys to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and staff; executed focus groups with university stakeholders; and reported on the varied formations of African American Studies and Ethnic Studies programs at colleges and universities across the United States.
